Ryn Weaver – "OctaHate" on Letterman
Had the chance to direct lighting for singer-songwriter Ryn Weaver on The Late Show with David Letterman.
This one was special for me personally—I have a long history on that 53rd Street block. Fourteen years earlier, I was performing across the street on Broadway with Blast! and used to sneak into Letterman rehearsals to watch incredible artists. I still have a Juliette Lewis-signed Natural Born Killers soundtrack from those days. Later, I worked back on Broadway as a climbing lighting and projection tech, ran sound at Studio 54, and did lighting/projection at Roseland. Letterman was the last theater on that block for me to check off, and with the late-night team transitioning to Colbert in May, time was running out.
The Letterman crew was incredibly open and supportive of what I wanted to try. Huge thanks to Tim Stephenson and Richard Tyndall for locking in the look and putting in the homework to make it shine.
Ryn was a dream to work with—full of energy and creativity, and clearly on the rise with an all-star team around her. Spent some time backstage with her management and Benny Blanco, talking about her nearly finished album—it’s got people seriously excited.
